Prints Charming at NSDCC

I am teaching an introduction to screen printing class at the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design

In the first weeks we explore the quality of line using a paper cut stencil as a resist for the screen.

And we explored the effects created when mixing colour whilst printing through the screen.

As always, the results are incredibly exciting!

Centenary of Canberra - Legacy of Good design article

Yesterday the program was launched for next year's celebrations of Canberra's 100th birthday at the Canberra Theatre.

Behind a large plywood 100 structure resting on the steps of the theatre, amidst the song and dance routines, the Canberra memorabilia products were launched.

To coincide with the launch a double page spread appeared in September's Art Monthly magazine. The five designs, which until now have been kept secret, have been revealed.

The products will be available from a number of places within Canberra including the National Gallery of Australia, War Memorial and National Museum of Australia to name a few.

Keep an eye on the Craft ACT website which will have a list of all the places, as well as the opportunity to buy the product online.

New Spring Designs

I wander'd lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'ver vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils.
Daffodils, William Wordsworth 1804

I have been inspired by the change of season and developed a new design which captures the exuberant nature of Spring. 'Flower Power' - a bunch of flowers growing out of the roof of Canberra's Parliament House!

Printed onto onesies, tea towels and bags this design is available exclusively at Shop Handmade in Canberra and my online store.

I caught my cat snoozing amongst the flowers that inspired the drawing yesterday - too cute! x

Enlightened Fabrics

A couple of months ago I teamed up with the very clever Jane from Honi and Lemon who transformed my screen printed fabrics into lampshades. Jane breathes new life into lampshades, recycling the frames of old shades and the lamp bases are upcycled too!

This shade with the Lake Burley Griffin scene has made its way to Shop Handmade in Canberra.

Each shade is bespoke, one of a kind and perfect for adding a touch of individuality within a room......

Featured in Style

The lovely ladies at Style Magazine, the essential lifestyle guide for rural and regional NSW, made the journey to visit us at the Handmade Markets, Canberra in June this year.

They dropped by to say hi - and it was lovely to meet them face to face after communicating by email....

I think they might've had a lot of fun discovering all the lovely handmade things at the markets :)

They even published a picture of my cushions (bottom of page 55).

Click on the images for a larger image if you would like to read the article.

Enjoy! x

Shop Handmade

With the opening of Shop Handmade eagerly anticipated this coming Friday, 16 April I am looking forward to seeing all the beautiful things made by clever and creative people. I am also delighted that my wares have been chosen to be displayed amongst such fabulous creations.

Ive made things out of fabrics I have designed and screen printed by hand within the last couple of months. Its very exciting to see these designs being realised - some are over a year in the making. Check out my flickr page for more images of my fabrics and creations.
